Weigh All Side-Effects When Researching Medications for Joint Pain Relief

Natural, pharmaceutical and over the counter medications, are available to anyone who needs them for joint pain relief. Nobody likes being in pain and for those with fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, or rheumatoid arthritis, day to day living can become quite debilitating. Jobs are given up, hobbies discarded, and depression often sets in. Inflammation is the direct cause of most joint pain, so once that is reduced, so will be the aches, stiffness and pain.

To treat arthritis, over the counter medications work great at reducing pain, but do nothing to halt the progression of the disease. They only work temporarily but are still necessary to allow some functioning abilities. Pain medications such as hydrocodone from a prescription, also help greatly with joint pain relief, but again, they only treat the pain and wear off within four to five hours. When taken as doctor directed, they can help a person to return to a more normal routine. Some natural remedies work by restoring joint health such as with glucosamine, certain supplements, vitamins and diet.

Foods have been shown to have a negative or positive impact on those with fibromyalgia, and especially those with rheumatoid arthritis. Consuming foods which contain saturated fats such as bacon, butter, cheese and beef increase inflammation in the body. This of course contributes to more pain. Another is the Omega-6 products such as, soy, sunflower, and most all seed oils. For joint pain relief, it is best to eat more Omega-3 foods such as fatty fish, flax seeds and walnuts. Olive oil is great for reducing inflammation as well as coconut oil. Some people swear by the benefits of borage oil. Soaking in a warm bath helps greatly before bedtime as well.

To receive the best joint pain relief possible, regularly receiving deep muscle massage, gentle exercise, such as swimming or pilates will keep muscles flexible which may help reduce morning stiffness. Also, taking over the counter medications and using some creams will ease pain. But to repair or retard further progression, there are some newer medications the rheumatologist may prescribe, which may return the person back to their former healthy lives. Just be sure to weigh side effects against the benefits of the drugs.
